Advantages of the Thermodynamic Free Walking Beam Engine

Simplicity of design offers rapid development path to commercialization.

Ease of manufacture.

Ease of maintenance.

Easy upgrade and expansion.

Scalability limited only by strength of materials; makes good use of the latest advances in carbon fiber and nanotechnology materials.

Continuous operation.

Long service life (estimated > 20 years).

Consumes no fuel.

Generates no waste heat or pollutants.

Very low decibel operation.

Uses naturally occurring sources of low to moderate temperature heat energy (e.g. solar, geothermal or waste heat).

Operates with as little as 20 oF temperature differential within a wide range of naturally occurring temperatures (all climates).

Mechanical efficiency > 80%, yielding > 10% overall heat to mechanical conversion efficiency (Sadi Carnot) from solar and > 20% from low temperature geothermal heat sources.

High torque, low rpm output can be used directly or converted to high rpm for electrical power generation via mechanical pressurization of fluid driving a turbine/generator system.

Can be installed in remote sites (off power grid).

Can be installed within existing commercial wind, solar or geothermal power facilities with little additional investment in land or infrastructure.

Requires no expensive, short service life batteries for electrical energy storage.  Heat energy from intermittent sources such as solar can be stored before mechanical conversion,  by inexpensive and long service life eutectic salt modules.
